Wayanad District is a district in the north-east of Kerala state, India with headquarters at the town of Kalpetta.
According to archaeological evidence, the Wayanad forests have been inhabited for more than 3,000 years.
Much evidence of New Stone Age civilisation can be seen in the hills throughout the present day Wayanad district. The Edakkal Caves have 6000 year old rock engravings from the Neolithic age.

PAZAHASSI RAJA TOMB
The Pazhassi Tomb is where thousands regularly pay homage to the famous Lion of Kerala, Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja. The tomb was constructed in the place where his body was cremated, and is situated on the banks of River Kabani in Mananthavady.
In 1996 March this tomb has been converted to museum and today the museum is one of the centres in the State which attracts historians, researchers and students from far and wide.

BANASURA SAGAR DAM
The Banasura Sagar dam is India’s largest earthen dam which is located across the Karamanathodu River a tributary of River Kabini in Kalpetta in Wayanad district of Kerala state. The Banasura Sagar dam is the second largest dam in Asia. Located at 21 km from Kalpetta at the foot of the Banasura hills Banasura Sagar Dam is made up of gigantic stones and boulders and is a part of the Indian Banasurasagar Project.

KURUVA ISLAND
Kuruvadweep or Kuruva Island is a 950-acre protected river delta. It comprises three densely wooded uninhabited islands and a few submergible satellite islands, which lies on the banks of the tributaries of Kabini River in the Wayanad district, Kerala, India. It is uninhabited island, which is home to rare species of birds, orchids, herbal plants etc.

EDDAKAL CAVES
Edakkal Caves are two natural caves at Edakkal, in the Wayanad district of Kerala in India's Western Ghats. They lie 1,200 m (3,900 ft) above sea level on Ambukutty Mala, near an ancient trade route connecting the high mountains of Mysore to the ports of the Malabar coast. Inside the caves are pictorial writings believed to date to at least 6,000 BCE, from the Neolithic man, indicating the presence of a prehistoric civilization or settlement in this region. The Stone Age carvings of Edakkal are rare and are the only known examples from South India.

THIRUNELLI TEMPLE
Thirunelli Temple is an ancient temple dedicated to Lord Maha Vishnu on the side of Brahmagiri hill in Kerala, near the border with Karnataka state. The temple is at an altitude of about 900m in north Wayanad in a valley surrounded by mountains and beautiful forests. It is 32 km away from Manathavady.
